Legend has it that the mad scientists at Prince tied a Speedport Black MP to two horses and made them run in opposite directions. The result was the Speedport Black Longbody, which is essentially a 0.5" longer Speedport Black. What do you get with this extra half inch? More power and reach on all your shots, which can come in handy if you're vertically challenged or half a step too slow.
The Speedport Tuning System comes standard on all the Speedport Black Models. The Speedport Black LB comes with two sets of grommet inserts to be placed at 12, 3, and 9 o'clock. Players can tune the racquet to their preference by choosing between the string port insert or the string hole insert.
The string port insert is shaped like the normal Speedport, providing a softer hitting feel, string damping, and a larger sweet spot. Playing with this set of grommets makes the racquet feel more like a 'tweener racquet with its power and comfort.
The string hole insert creates a firmer hitting feel, increased string feedback, and a normal sweet spot. This set of grommets feels much more solid and is recommended for more advanced players.
This racquet is ideal for players who are improving quickly but can benefit from a little more reach and power. NTRP 3.0-4.0 players should start with the string port inserts, and as they get better, switch to the string hole inserts. It truly feels like two different racquets for the price of one.
